After a fast and furious first session of the second installment of the Durrrr Challenge, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates took the weekend off to soak in other activities. Let’s just hope that the lull in play quickly ends, otherwise as they say, the natives are going to get restless.
On Friday night, Cates told his 722 followers via Twitter, “Chilling in PA with master Gu.” One day later, it was more time away from the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker, where the second installment of the Million Dollar Challenge is being held. Cates Tweeted, “Out 4 a night on the town w. The crew. Wats goodie @akinominal @SLS_3 @MuEazy.” Dwan hasn’t updated his Twitter account since the completion of the 1,651st hand of play, when he was up about $130,000.
In a 110-page thread that appeared on TwoPlusTwo railing the Cates/Dwan 50,000-hand challenge, “e i pi” posted a conversation between Dwan and Swedish online poker pro “Isildur1,” who many believe to be Viktor Blom. The two were allegedly plotting a 10-hour session, but that has yet to materialize at the time of writing. According to posters on TwoPlusTwo, Blom was playing in the European Poker Tour (EPT) Vilamoura event in Portugal; however, he is not listed among the starters on Day 1A or 1B.
As it currently stands, Cates is up $518,000 on Dwan after nearly 5,900 hands of action, or nearly 10% of those required for completion. Meanwhile, in the first incarnation of the Million Dollar Challenge between Dwan and Full Tilt Poker pro Patrik Antonius, no action has occurred for four weeks in what has become a fairly lackluster battle. Dwan remains up over $2 million over Antonius with about 11,000 hands left to play.
Dwan had expressed interest in completing the challenge with Cates before the 2010 World Series of Poker Europe kicks off on September 14th. The £10,350 buy-in Main Event begins in September 23rd.
