Hand Analysis from Tuesday’s Session

The Durrrr Challenge resumed for a very quick 300+ hand session on Tuesday night that saw Tom Dwan finally cut into Patrik Antonius and the big giant pile of “durrrr cash” that he’s won over the course of the challenge thus far. It seems that these shove situations where Dwan was getting the worse of it might have finally turned in his favor and he might have wisened up and not started shoving all in with every draw he flopped.

Hand Analysis

With most big hands we’ve seen the button raise and the big blind 3bet, but this time around durrrr flat called the raise out of position with 9-K-Q-5 single suited for a fairly weak Pot Limit Omaha hand. Antonius, on the other side of the table, wasn’t kidding around with his Q-T-J-J single suited hand. The flop came J-T-2 with two spades that gave durrrr an unattractive open ender while Antonius hit a set. I’m not sure what the reason behind the flat call was behind durrrr’s raise, but I am guessing that Antonius knew that his set was probably good but was vulnerable to the draws and wanted to see another card to reevaluate. The deuce on the turn seals the deal for Antonius who nails jacks over deuces for a boat. Durrrr led out again and Antonius flat called, presumably as a slow play method. The deuce on the river opened up some interesting possibilities that durrrr would have a boat and pay off Antonius (with a worse hand) or give action with the better hand (holding the case 2) to beating him. Apparently that possibility was enough for Antonius who checked behind at the river with the 2nd nuts. At that critical river point in the hand Antonius figured that knowing durrrr and his aggression, if he had anything at all he would have bet. A check-raise by durrrr would mean a tough decision for Antonius, so he simply checked, thinking worse hands would fold to any raise and a hand that beats him would raise or give action. As it stood Patrik took down a “small” pot.

Hand Analysis

We dont know what Antonius had in this hand but it might have been a decent starting hand since he raised from the big blind and led out on the flop of 9-7-3. With the Queen on the turn Antonius check-called durrrr’s three-quarter pot bet who held nothing more than 2nd pair with little chance to improve. However, he did just that on the river with the 9 that gave Dwan trips, and Antonius made the dubious call against durrrr who stacked off. Antonius might have had a J-J-x-x type of hand that would have been a little scared of that Queen. However, Dwan guessed right that his trip nines were good and that his river shove would get called by a worse hand. Kudos to Dwan for outplaying Antonius in this hand.
