Play resumed in the Durrrr Challenge between Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates on Friday. Dwan continued to cut into Cates’ lead, this time narrowing the overall margin to $645,000. The second incarnation of the Durrrr Challenge is quickly approaching the 10,000-hand mark out of the 50,000 required for completion.
There were actually two sessions played on Friday. The first, a 1,354-hand encounter, saw Cates go up $35,000. Then, a 769-hand session ended with Dwan picking up $47,000 to end the day up about $12,000.
The largest pot of the 80-minute, 769-hand session totaled $88,000. In it, Cates was first to act pre-flop and raised the price of poker to $800. Dwan made it $2,400 and Cates pushed it even further, this time to $4,400. Dwan called and the flop came Q-5-2 with two spades and $8,800 up for grabs.
Dwan acted first and checked, while Cates fired out a bet of $2,800. Dwan just called and the turn was the seven of hearts. Dwan once again checked and Cates bet out $8,400. Dwan called and the river was the three of diamonds. Dwan hit the table and Cates pushed all-in for just over $28,000. Dwan called behind and tabled 7-5 for two pair. Cates showed K-6 for a failed bluff and “Durrrr” scooped the $88,000 bounty.
In an $87,000 pot also played during the second session on Friday, Dwan raised to $1,200 before the flop and Cates called to bring a 7-8-10 board with two clubs. Cates fired out $2,000 onto the draw-heavy board and Dwan raised it to $7,200. Cates called and the turn was the three of hearts.
On the turn, Cates checked, while Dwan bet $11,200. Cates quickly check-raised all-in for nearly $47,000 and Dwan called the $35,000 needed to build an $87,000 pot. Cates showed pocket sevens for a set, while Dwan showed 9-6 for a 10-high straight. Needing the board to pair on the river, Cates watched as a red ace hit. It was one of three pots to pass $80,000 during Friday’s 769-hand session. During the first session of the evening, the largest pot totaled $170,000.
Cates has won 5,967, or over 60%, of the hands played so far and stands with a $645,000 lead over Dwan. We’ll have a full list of key hands of the latest sessions for you soon right here on DurrrrChallenge.com.
