Is it over? Is Dan “jungleman12” Cates’ lead in the Durrrr Challenge enough to silence Tom “durrrr” Dwan forever? In a session that took place during the overnight hours of January 3rd and 4th, Cates added another $319,000 to his lead in the Million Dollar Challenge and now has an $819,000 advantage on Dwan. The extended session lasted for 2,918 hands and ran over the course of six hours.
One pot during the session passed $200,000. In it, Dwan raised before the flop to $1,200 with 5-4 of hearts and Cates 3bet to $4,800 with a not-so-menacing J-2 of hearts. Dwan called behind and the flop came Q-8-6 with two hearts, giving both players flush draws. Dwan had a gutshot straight draw as well and called a $5,200 bet from Cates.
The turn was the king of hearts, giving both players flushes, and Cates led out for $16,800. Dwan once again came along, this time with an inferior flush. The river was a benign three of diamonds and Cates fired out a bet of $43,600. Dwan moved all-in over the top for $81,000 and Cates called the extra $37,000. Full Tilt Poker pushed the $216,000 pot to Cates with his superior flush in what we’d consider to be a cooler for Dwan. The pot was the largest played during the second installment of the Durrrr Challenge.
A total of 17,108 hands have been dealt out of the 50,000 required for completion. Dwan hasn’t led since the challenge passed 4,000 hands, leaving many to wonder whether he can right the ship against Cates.
