Analysis of Hands from Micro Session

Hours before Patrik Antonius would have to pamper his lovely lady Maya Geller for Valentine’s Day, he found time for a date with Tom “durrrr” Dwan. The two put in a small session for 16 minutes for a grand total of 79 hands. Dwan managed to get the best of Antonius to the tune of $21,790. Let’s take a look at a few hands and see what happened.

Analysis

In the pre-flop round, we saw Antonius 3bet and durrrr flat it in position on the button. From there, the hand was played remarkably passively by both players. The flop and turn check-downs by both players was something we haven’t seen much of during this challenge. Clearly, the monotone flop scared both players from making the pot too big. The river Jack upgraded Dwan to a full house of Jacks full of Nines, which beat any flopped flush Antonius might have had. Dwan didn’t quite bet the full pot, but Antonius called for a relatively cheap showdown in Durrrr Challenge terms. Although we don’t know what Antonius had, it’s very likely he held at least had two pair and probably turned a straight or rivered an inferior boat.

Analysis

Antonius had the better hand with 3-K-A-T single-suited to the Ace of clubs, while Durrrr held 6-7-8-K suited to clubs as well. It’s not to say this was a huge edge by Antonius, who also had to play the hand out of position on the big blind. Like the last hand, Antonius 3bet and Dwan flatted. The flop of J-2-7 with two hearts didn’t do a thing for Antonius and gave Dwan second pair. Surprisingly, it was this flop that had action, with Antonius leading out with a pure bluff bet. Dwan once again flatted behind and the turn brought an eight of hearts, which filled any flush draws. It seems like both players were wary the other had the draw filled and decided to check it to the river. The Ace on the river improved Antonius to just top pair, which is a weak showdown hand in Omaha, even heads-up. The two, without much confidence in their hands, checked it down and Antonius won a modest pot.
