Analysis from March 14th Session

The boys were finally back at their Challenge tables this week as the challenge resumed between Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius at Full Tilt Poker. Let’s take a look at some of the hands played and try to break down the play and possible meta-game that factored into their decision making process.

Sean’s Hand Analysis

It seems like every time Durrrr has the button he’s making a 3x raise so him doing so with a relatively good heads up Omaha hand is more than reasonable. Antonius doesn’t have a great hand but he has a suited King and some connecting cards. The flop of 96J gives Durrrr two pair and the nut flush draw and Antonius an open ended straight draw AND a king high flush draw. Patrik doesn’t wait for anything and donk bets into Durrrr who immediately gives him action. It’s interesting to note that Patrik led out there, maybe he feels with donk betting into Dwan that he’d get more action than if he simply check-raised. Both players get it in at the flop with their draws with Dwan in a real good situation if another club hits. At the flop, Dwan is a 75-25% favorite to win, but with the 7 and Q of spades hitting the remaining streets Antonius wins the hand making a straight.

Patrik’s Flush Earns Him $74K

Sean’s Hand Analysis

Durrrr doesn’t have a great hand at all to start this thing out but makes his obligatory button raise anyways, and Antonius 3bets holding pocket aces with both suited to a low rag. The flop hits Durrrr with two pair and Antonius has a gutshot draw and the nut flush draw. Just like we saw before with decent flops and big draws both players are not afraid to immediately get it in. At this point, Antonius is a little behind but is actually a 60-40% favorite in the hand, and hits his turn Q to give him a flush. The 3 of diamonds bricks the river (Durrrr was drawing to a boat) and Antonius takes another hand down.
