On Wednesday, June 30th, the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max event fired up from the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Tournament reporters followed Tom “durrrr” Dwan quite closely throughout his abbreviated stay in the Rio Pavilion. In fact, Dwan lasted just two hours, meaning that the experience cost him a solid $12,500 per hour, or $200 per minute. Now that’s value!
On a flop of 10-9-7 with two diamonds, Dwan led out for 1,350 and an opponent called. The turn was a three and Dwan fired once again, this time 4,250. His opponent came along and the river was a six. The action went check-check and Dwan showed K-J of spades for king-high. Against Isildur1, this might have been good. However, his opponent tabled J-9 for second pair and Dwan quickly dropped to 73,000 chips from his initial stack of 75,000.
Dwan then scooped a pot off of bracelet winner Steve “MrSmokey1” Billirakis with pocket kings on a king-high board for a set. Billirakis mucked and Dwan’s stack approached 100,000. Then, disaster struck. With millions of dollars in bracelet bets hanging in the balance, Dwan’s chips found the center with A-Q on a flop of A-10-4. He was up against Alex Roumeliotis’ 10-8 for middle pair and a nine on the turn made it seem like Dwan was in store for a big-time double up. However, Roumeliotis spiked an eight on the river to take Dwan’s stack and send the Durrrr Challenge combatant out after just two hours. The hand occurred just minutes before the first scheduled break of the day.
A total of 185 players entered the second priciest tournament on the 2010 WSOP schedule, including Dwan, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, Justin “ZeeJustin” Bonomo, and Full Tilt Poker pro Phil Ivey. Although the usual suspects may be in line for a monster payday in the $25,000 No Limit Hold’em Six-Max event, Dwan will likely be entering other tournaments this week leading up to Monday’s running of the Main Event.
Dwan and Patrik Antonius have completely abandoned the Durrrr Challenge during the 2010 WSOP. While Dwan has been busy trying to collect on bracelet bets, Antonius has been largely absent. Maybe he still has a bad taste in his mouth after being shut out of the Main Event last year on Day 1D. He’s stuck $1.8 million with 80% of the Million Dollar Challenge completed, leaving many to wonder when the extravaganza will finally wrap up.
