On this week’s episode of the popular GSN cash game series “High Stakes Poker,” Durrrr Challenge participant Patrik Antonius spoke his mind to show co-host Kara Scott. Antonius opened up about playing against the likes of Phil Ivey and Tom “durrrr” Dwan on both the live and virtual felts.
This week’s “High Stakes Poker” group featured all three of Antonius, Dwan, and Ivey. The Finnish poker superstar told Scott, “I think Phil has a little bit more edge playing live than online. He has a very good feeling for the game live. Tom is very good too. I think we are all better live players than online players.” The high-stakes Durrrr Challenge has been held on the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker in an online setting. The tables, however, have been quiet since March 12th, which is when we last saw action between Dwan and Antonius.
Antonius added that he would rather play Ivey online and Dwan live, emphasizing Ivey’s keen understanding of the live game. Ivey has seven World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets and total earnings approaching $5 million. Ivey made the final table of last year’s Main Event, ultimately bowing out in seventh place for $1.4 million. Dwan is up $7.3 million online since PokerTableRatings.com began tracking the youngster two years ago. He opened Sunday’s installment of “High Stakes Poker” showing a profit of $335,000 against a talented crop of poker pros.
In one hand on last night’s episode, Barry Greenstein raised to $5,500 pre-flop with Q-10 and Ivey, smelling a rat, made it $18,000 with a paltry 5-2. Lex Veldhuis, who had straddled pre-flop to $1,600, pushed the action to $51,600 with K-J of hearts. Greenstein got out of the way and Ivey shoved all-in for $197,200. Veldhuis folded, leading “High Stakes Poker” host Gabe Kaplan to trumpet, “That is one of the great bluffs in the history of ‘High Stakes Poker.’”
Next week, a new crop of players takes to the “High Stakes Poker” felts, although Dwan and Ivey will return. Their competition will include Daniel Negreanu, David Benyamine, Mike Matusow, Eli Elezra, Doyle Brunson, and Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier. New episodes of “High Stakes Poker” can be seen on GSN on Sundays at 8:00pm ET.
