Two Hands from Monday’s Session

The Durrrr Challenge finally resumed on Monday for a nice 842-hand session. Patrik Antonius extended his lead by roughly $80,000 over Tom Dwan and with the challenge almost 25% completed he now has a solid lead. Let’s take a look at two hands that were near the end of the session.

Hand Analysis

Stack sizes should be noted during the pre-flop round as Antonius had three times the amount of money at the table compared to Dwan. The action pre-flop showed durrrr make a raise from position, Antonius 3-bet, which received a flat call from durrrr. It seems that if Dwan has position he’s willing to flat a 3-bet with even a marginal hand much like he held in this one. The odds before the flop favored Antonius by a 62-38% edge. The flop struck gold for Antonius with the 6-7-8 two hearts giving him the nut straight, however Dwan held the flush draw for 7 outs. Throughout the challenge we’ve seen both players get it all in for this type of situation, which was exactly what happened at the flop in this one. However, since Dwan held an extra heart and Antonius held one as well it wasn’t the coin-flip situation that Dwan probably hoped it was, with Antonius at a 66-34% advantage. With the 8 and 4 on the turn and river and no hearts appearing, Antonius took in the $84,170 pot.

Hand Analysis

Again we saw durrrr on the button and at a chip disadvantage pre-flop. Dwan held a decent hand and made a raise, and with a pretty bad hand Antonius just flat called. This was one of the rare times we saw the big blind flat a raise and not 3bet, which might show in future hands when a player doesn’t have something all that great. This time around, the pre-flop advantage was held by durrrr 60-40%. The flop of J-5-3 rainbow gave durrrr top set while Antonius had a big straight draw to any 2, 4, 6 or 7. Again, we saw the scenario of one player hitting a flop hard and another player with a good sized draw, and both players getting in all the money. This time, it was Dwan who enjoyed the 63-37% advantage and witnessed the board pairing on the river, which gave him the winning boat and a $118,277 pot he sorely needed by the end of this session.
