Durrrr’s Main Event Journey Ends Early

Tom Dwan made another valiant attempt to add a WSOP title to his resume this year, but yet again durrrr fell short of his bracelet goal. Last year, Dwan’s last ditch effort to win a bracelet in the WSOP’s Main Event made big headlines, but this year the poker press was far more dubious and little fanfare surrounded the ambitious young pro’s Day 1D elimination. At the beginning of the 2011 WSOP, Dwan admitted that he had far less riding on a bracelet this year, but he also admitted that the lower stakes weren’t for lack of trying. In the end, it looks like durrrr’s diminished prop bets will cut his losses some, and he surely can’t be too sad about his series performance with three cashes and a final table finish to his credit this year. In related Main Event news, Dwan’s choice to play Day 1D probably didn’t… Read More »

Where Does Durrrr Go From Here?

Whether or not Tom Dwan gets his bracelet at this year’s WSOP, the series is invariably drawing to a close. In years past, Dwan has typically withdrawn from the live tournament circuit following the World Series, giving his fans plenty of action to follow in the online nosebleed sections. Now, without Full Tilt to fall back on, one can only guess at durrrr’s next move, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. In the best case scenario, Dwan will be busy for another two weeks, battling his way to the Main Event final table which will be decided on July 19. In the more likely event that durrrr is eliminated early, he’s got a few moves to ponder. After a month of nearly non-stop competition, Dwan could probably use some downtime, but after entering a few dozen WSOP events his bankroll is probably in worse shape than his health.… Read More »

Durrrr’s 2011 Bracelet Hopes Dwindling

The 2011 World Series of Poker is winding down with only two events left on the schedule before Main Event Day 1A begins on Thursday. Thus far Tom Dwan has had some close calls, seeing over a dozen Day 2s, cashing in three events and final tabling in one. By the end of the series, he will likely beat the 51 buy-ins he paid at last year’s WSOP, and yet the young grinder has yet to claim a WSOP bracelet. Over the holiday weekend, Scott Seiver sent durrrr to the rail on Day 3 of the $50,000 Poker Players’ Championship. As of today he’s still hanging on in the $1000 No-Limit Hold’em, but if that event fails to yield a winning finish, he’s got only Event #56: $1500 No-Limit Hold’em and Event #57: $5000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split 8 or Better left before the Main Event. Last year, Dwan’s desperate… Read More »

Is Online Poker Due For A Turnaround?

When the U.S. Department of Justice closed down four of the biggest poker sites in the world on April 15, there were a lot of doom and gloom predictions about the future of online poker. To be fair, in the last year we’ve witnessed the rise and fall of more than one online poker regulation proposal, seen sharp revenue declines, and just this week watched one of the world’s largest poker rooms get stripped of its ability to operate in either America or Europe. But now that the U.S. government is releasing emergency oil reserves and cutting Social Security and Medicare benefits, suddenly profiting from a voluntary, skill-based game like poker doesn’t sound like such a bad idea. Cue Congressman Joe Barton and his new proposal, HR2366, the Online Poker Act of 2011. Barton announced HR2366 last week, and the potential legislation already has over a dozen sponsors from both… Read More »
