Play on Tuesday stretched for a little over two hours and saw the largest pot weigh in at $108,000. Dwan took it down after a failed bluff by Cates on the river, but Cates struck back by winning a pot worth $101,000. In that hand, both players flopped trip eights, but Cates held the better kicker. The river was run twice and Cates’ superior holding came out on top both times. Many in the poker community have suggested that Dwan is as good as dead in this incarnation of the Durrrr Challenge, but we’ll let you decide for… Read More »

Dan Cates Continues Surge in Durrrr Challenge, Now up $941,000

It’s been a rough go for Tom “durrrr” Dwan in the second installment of the Durrrr Challenge. Dwan’s battle against Dan “jungleman12” Cates has seen him trail nearly the entire way. Earlier this week, Dwan’s woes continued, as he dropped another $122,000 to Cates over the course of 348 hands played late Monday night and into Tuesday morning. A total of 17,456 hands have been played of the 50,000 required for completion. In a sizable $80,000 pot during this week’s encounter, a flop of 9-8-6 with two diamonds brought fireworks from our two favorite high-stakes poker players. Cates, after 3betting pre-flop, checked and Dwan fired out a bet of $4,800. Perhaps not surprisingly, Cates check-raised to $10,800 and Dwan moved all-in for $48,000. Cates called for his stack to set up an $80,000 pot. When the hands were revealed, Dwan showed pocket sevens for a pair and an open-ended straight… Read More »
