Thank the poker Gods that the second leg of the Durrrr Challenge is underway because, let’s face it, the first one was a major disappointment. JungleMan12 Extends Lead to $692,000 in Durrrr Challenge

The Million Dollar Challenge between Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates resumed on Monday, with a midday session that saw Cates widen his lead to $692,000 after 6,820 hands. With the challenge about 13% of the way home, let’s check out some of the highlights from Monday’s play. In one hand, Cates collected a $122,000 pot holding A-10 of spades on a board reading 5-5-4-A-Q with two diamonds for top pair. Dwan held 8-3 of diamonds for a busted flush draw, but fired out on the river anyway and Cates called all-in. Also buzz worthy was a hand featuring a chopped pot with Cates’ aces against Dwan’s J-2. The money went into the middle on a board of 7-2-4-J and per the rules of the second Durrrr Challenge, the river was run twice. The first river was a king, ensuring that Dwan would scoop half of the pot, but… Read More »

Weekend Break for the Durrrr Challenge: Part 2

After a fast and furious first session of the second installment of the Durrrr Challenge, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Dan “JungleMan12” Cates took the weekend off to soak in other activities. Let’s just hope that the lull in play quickly ends, otherwise as they say, the natives are going to get restless. On Friday night, Cates told his 722 followers via Twitter, “Chilling in PA with master Gu.” One day later, it was more time away from the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker, where the second installment of the Million Dollar Challenge is being held. Cates Tweeted, “Out 4 a night on the town w. The crew. Wats goodie @akinominal @SLS_3 @MuEazy.” Dwan hasn’t updated his Twitter account since the completion of the 1,651st hand of play, when he was up about $130,000. In a 110-page thread that appeared on TwoPlusTwo railing the Cates/Dwan 50,000-hand challenge, “e i pi”… Read More »

JungleMan12 Up $518,000 After 5,862 Hands of Durrrr Challenge

If you’ve been living under a rock lately, then it might be news to you that the second installment of the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge kicked off on Thursday night on Full Tilt Poker. At the end of the first “session” of play, Dan “JungleMan12” Cates was up a staggering $518,000 over Dwan. A total of 5,862 hands were played, or about 10% of the 50,000 required for completion. Needless to say, Dwan has dug himself a hole early. Stats posted on Full Tilt’s blog reveal domination by Cates, who sported a VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money into the Pot) of 69.2% over the first 5,862 hands. Dwan’s VPIP, while still high, totaled 65.0%, meaning that Cates was slightly more active before the flop. Amazingly, Cates won 62% of the hands played. Let that sink in for a second – 62%! By deduction, Dwan raked in just 38% of the… Read More »

Tom Dwan Up $130,000 After 1,651 Hands Against JungleMan12

Like Samuel L. Jackson famously said in the movie “Jurassic Park,” “Hold onto your butts.” The second installment of the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge kicked off on Thursday night featuring the New Jersey youngster battling CardRunners instructor Dan “JungleMan12” Cates. Dwan ended the first 1,651-hand session up about $130,000, but has seemingly taken a nosedive since. In fact, posts of chat logs with JungleMan12 on TwoPlusTwo indicate that Cates is up $518,000 after 5,800 hands. To say that the online poker community was following the action closely would be a severe understatement. The pair is playing 50,000 hands of $200/$400 No Limit Hold’em. If Cates is up at the end of the challenge by $1 or more, Dwan will fork over $1.5 million. Contrastingly, if Dwan is up $1 or more at the conclusion of 50,000 hands, Cates will owe $500,000, as Dwan gave 3:1 on his money. In… Read More »

Durrrr Challenge Featuring JungleMan12 to Begin This Week?

In breaking news from the virtual felts of Full Tilt, it appears that the next installment of the Durrrr Challenge, which is purportedly set to feature Tom “durrrr” Dwan against Daniel “JungleMan12” Cates, may begin as early as this week. However, Full Tilt Poker, which hosts the Durrrr Challenge tables, has remained completely mum about a new challenger. In a chat that appeared on Monday on a Full Tilt table between Dwan and Cates that was posted on HighStakesDB, the latter said he shipped $500,000 to Phil Ivey, the challenge’s escrow. Dwan began the trash talking in earnest, telling Cates, “I can start talking &&%% since we’re booked and say that it’s cute u think u’ll ever have an edge.” Dwan ended his sentence with a smiley face and added, “lmk if u wanna play, if not we’ll start in a few days.” We’re writing this article on Tuesday and… Read More »

Durrrr Challenge is Back and Looser than Ever

The Durrrr Challenge returned to the felts of Full Tilt Poker in recent days, with Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius battling for nearly 500 hands and a bevy of six-figure pots. DurrrrChallenge.com sat down with PokerXFactor instructor Chris “Fox” Wallace to analyze two of the hands during the sudden burst of activity. In our first hand, Antonius raised to $1,200 pre-flop with 6c Qh 8s 9h and Dwan made it $3,600 with Ks Th Qd Qs . Antonius pushed the action to $7,200, Dwan made it $21,600, and Antonius called to see a flop of 3d Qc 9c . Dwan bet, Antonius raised enough to put his nemesis all-in, and Dwan called for his stack with a set of queens. Antonius could not improve on his top two pair when the board filled out 2-5 and Dwan scooped a $157,000 pot. The durrrr Challenge Resumes

Tom “durrrr” Dwan was asked during the WSOP events if the durrrr challenge was going to end in the near future, and his answer was that his challenge with Patrik Antonius was going to end soon and that he wanted to start one or two more challenges at the same time. Let’s see if things go according to his plan and the first durrrr challenge ends sometime this year. Durrrr and Patrik played two sessions in the last few days and a total of 462 hands were logged. Durrrr managed to increase his overall lead in the challenge by $215,289. It took them four months since April to hit the virtual felts again and continue with their long overdue challenge. Let’s hope they can keep playing and put and end to this chapter. Below you’ll find the key hands of their latest session: Three of a Kind is enough to… Read More »
