How Will Dwan and Antonius Fare at the 2010 WSOP?

The 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is almost upon is. We don’t know how the world’s most prestigious poker series will affect the ongoing Durrrr Challenge between Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius. What we do know, however, is that both players will be headed to Las Vegas to compete. Let’s take a look back at recent installments of the WSOP to see how our heroes have fared. Dwan has exactly three cashes in his career at WSOP and WSOP Europe events. Despite the lack of volume, two of his in the money finishes are for final tables. In 2008, Dwan took seventh in the World Championship Mixed Event for $67,000 in a tournament won by Anthony Rivera. Others at the competitive final table included Corwin “mig.com” Mackey, Matt Glantz, Sammy Farha, and Eli Elezra. That’s half of the cast of GSN’s “High Stakes Poker” all lumped into one table.… Read More »

Brian Townsend is Next… Or is He?

According to the May 2010 issue of Bluff Magazine, CardRunners instructor Brian Townsend is next in line to take on Tom “durrrr” Dwan in the Million Dollar Challenge. Dwan revealed his next opponent in a feature story as part of an expansive interview. However, he later recanted his comments on TwoPlusTwo much to the dismay of Bluff Magazine staff. Will Townsend be next? Dwan’s current opponent, fellow Full Tilt Poker pro Patrik Antonius, appears to be growing weary of the Durrrr Challenge. Antonius told Bluff Magazine, “I have to say I am just a little bit tired of playing [against] Tom. That’s also because I’ve had the worst run in my life in poker the last two-and-a-half months. I’ve broken almost every losing record there is. [So] I’m tired of playing anything at the moment, not just the Durrrr Challenge.” There has been a two-and-a-half week pause in action in… Read More »

Tom Dwan Shows Down A-Q High

In a rather bizarre hand from a recent session of the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge, Tom “durrrr” Dwan raised to $1,200 pre-flop with 9c-Ah-3h-8c and rival Patrik Antonius bumped the price of poker to $3,600 with 3s-As-Ac-4c. Dwan raised to $10,800, Antonius pushed it to $32,400, and Dwan called to bring a flop of Jd-2h-5h. Antonius led out for $64,800 (a pot-sized bet) with pocket aces and an open-ended straight draw, while Dwan came over the top all-in for another $33,000 with flush and straight draws. Antonius called the board filled out Qc-6s, shipping the behemoth $261,000 pot to Antonius with a six-high straight. Meanwhile, Dwan mucked A-Q high. DurrrrChallenge.com sat down with PokerXFactor instructor Chris “Fox” Wallace to break down the hand. DurrrrChallenge.com: Thanks for joining us. Can you walk us through what you saw in this hand? Chris Wallace: The pair of aces also has an open-ended… Read More »

The Momentum Continues

With a flurry of action this week, Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius seem set on actually finishing the Challenge, which is something that didn’t seem likely just a month ago. It’s no secret that durrrr is having an outstanding year and the Challenge is no exception. After play on Friday – the third day of the week the two titans did battle – durrrr still holds a $1,844,430 lead over Patrik Antonius with 11,026 hands remaining. This most recent clash saw Antonius trim Dwan’s edge ever so slightly, but in the grand scheme of things durrrr remains the favorite by a wide margin. Below are a few hands from the session: Antonius Drags a Big Pot Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 2 players durrrr (BTN/SB): $130943.00 Patrik Antonius (BB): $300359.00 Pre Flop: ($600.00) durrrr raises to $1200, Patrik Antonius raises to $3600, durrrr raises to $10800,… Read More »
