Challenge Runs on Back-to-Back Nights

For the second time in as many nights, Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius fired up the Durrrr Challenge tables on Full Tilt Poker. In the weeks prior, it appeared the contest was dead and rumors of Patrik conceding were abound. Tuesday’s mammoth 2700-hand battle quashed that notion in a hurry, however, and the challenge marches on. Wednesday saw the two players tangle numerous times over the course of the day, but when the dust settled, durrrr emerged with his $1.8 million lead still intact. In the biggest pot of the evening, durrrr opened his button for a min-raise and after Patrik made it $2400, he quickly bumped the action to $7200. Patrik called and the two players took a Td 6h 8d flop. Antonius check-called $8400 and the turn dropped the 9h . Patrik then led $31,200, which durrrr called, and when the Th fell on the river the rest… Read More »

First Action in Over a Month

This afternoon at 3pm ET, Patrik Antonius and Tom Dwan decided to grace us with some durrrr Challenge action for the first time since March 14th. In their last session, a short but eventful nine-minute affair, durrrr widened his lead over Antonius to a staggering $2 million. The two high stakes legends went at it for 2757 hands, which resulted in almost no change. They’ve now played 36,060 hands of the required 50K, with Dwan retaining a $1.9 million edge over Antonius. In the biggest hand of this most recent tilt, durrrr opened his button to $1200 only to see Antonius bump it up to $3600. Dwan flatted and the two took a 7d Jd 3h flop. Apparently both players hit the board hard as after Patrik lead for $6K, Tom put in a raise and in the blink of an eye, all the money went into the middle. When… Read More »

Isildur1 Busts from EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final

The man purported to be the Swedish online poker sensation Isildur1, Viktor “blom30” Blom, has been sent packing from the European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo Grand Final. Blom, donning a pink and blue hoodie covering locks of reddish hair, was ousted at the hands of Leo Margets, the last woman standing in the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. Blom committed his chips with pocket aces on a flop of 8-5-10, but Margets showed pocket tens for top set. Coverage found on the official website of PokerStars, the tournament’s sponsor, noted, “According to one eye-witness – Egill Einarsson who was sitting next to Blom – ‘He wasn’t very pleased.’” Margets stacked up 125,000 chips after the hand, which took place on the second of two starting days in the famed Monaco casino. Blom opened the day seated alongside composed poker pro Mel Judah, a Season 2 World… Read More »

David Benyamine Regulates on High Stakes Poker

Assuming stage one of the Durrrr Challenge featuring Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan wraps up, David Benyamine may soon find his way into the competition. On Sunday night’s episode of the GSN cash game series “High Stakes Poker,” Benyamine was on his game, pushing the competition out of pots in the blink of an eye. Take this one, for example. Daniel Negreanu raised to $3,000 pre-flop with 10-9 of spades and 10-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Doyle Brunson came along with pocket queens. Benyamine, holding 7-5 of spades, also called and the flop came down 9-3-8 with two spades. Benyamine checked his straight and flush draws and Negreanu bet $8,500 with top pair and a 10-high flush draw. Brunson called with the best hand and the queen of spades hit on the turn. Despite the jackpot card filling Negreanu’s and Benyamine’s flushes and giving Brunson top… Read More »

Patrik Antonius Comments on Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey

On this week’s episode of the popular GSN cash game series “High Stakes Poker,” Durrrr Challenge participant Patrik Antonius spoke his mind to show co-host Kara Scott. Antonius opened up about playing against the likes of Phil Ivey and Tom “durrrr” Dwan on both the live and virtual felts. This week’s “High Stakes Poker” group featured all three of Antonius, Dwan, and Ivey. The Finnish poker superstar told Scott, “I think Phil has a little bit more edge playing live than online. He has a very good feeling for the game live. Tom is very good too. I think we are all better live players than online players.” The high-stakes Durrrr Challenge has been held on the virtual felts of Full Tilt Poker in an online setting. The tables, however, have been quiet since March 12th, which is when we last saw action between Dwan and Antonius. Antonius added that… Read More »

Isildur1 April Fools Day Articles Released

It’s the first day of April, which means you can expect a barrage of false news to be released across cyberspace. Even Google has renamed itself Topeka for the day, keeping with the April Fools Day spirit. In the poker world, April Fools Day has featured several articles with the real identity of Isildur1 purportedly being revealed. The Cake Poker Blog started the holiday off on the right foot by releasing an article stating that Isildur1 was actually Swedish hockey superstar Mats Sundin. A sponsored pro of PokerStars, Sundin hails from Sweden and could theoretically fit the Isildur1 mantra. The USA-friendly online poker site’s blog read, “A pair of media outlets in Stockholm, including Sportradion, are reporting some big news – the mysterious super high-stakes poker player previously known only as Isildur1 is actually retired hockey pro Mats Sundin. According to these reports, Sundin’s agent will be making the official… Read More »
