Daniel Negreanu Comments on Tom Dwan

Team PokerStars Pro member Daniel Negreanu, the proud owner of four World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets, recently played against Tom “durrrr” Dwan during taping of the fifth season of GSN’s “High Stakes Poker.” The show debuts this Sunday, March 1st, at 9:00pm ET. Negreanu told durrrrchallenge.com why he elected not to participate in the four-table, 50,000 hand extravaganza against Dwan: “Online poker is not my thing. When I play online, I play one game at a time. I’d be at a big disadvantage because I can’t concentrate on four tables.” In addition to Antonius, Dwan is slated to compete against Phil Ivey and David Benyamine. We asked one of the most fan-friendly players in poker to comment on Dwan’s cash game play during the taping of High Stakes Poker. He responded, “He’s obviously really good. He’s really aggressive and wild. Dwan does a lot of things that you’d say… Read More »

Don’t worry, we haven’t gone anywhere

But durrrr and Patrik have somewhat disappeared. While they’ve both been spotted on and around the Full Tilt Poker felts over the last few days, there hasn’t been a hint of action at the Durrrr Challenge tables. Some of the 500/1000 NLHE/PLHE/PLO tables have seen quite a bit of action lately. In addition, the following chat was spotted on one of the high stakes tables: Urindanger: fullflush Urindanger: you want to play me at HA HU? Urindanger: 500/1000 or 3/6 __FullFlush1__: nah but we can go nl 200 400 as many tables as you want durrrr: is that open to me too? __FullFlush1__: cork it durrballs durrrr: . Jeff Gray (jeffbeesdat) Comments on Tom Dwan’s Game

One of the top online tournament pros in the world is Jeff “jeffbeesdat” Gray. He took down the fourth event of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series (FTOPS), a $300 cubed tournament, back in November of 2007 for $138,000. He’s also a former PokerStars $100 rebuy winner and one of the world’s foremost brains on online poker. Gray, like many others in the industry, has been following the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge. He recalled the early days of Dwan’s poker career: “The last time I played with Dwan was probably in 2005 when he still played a few tournaments as ‘Holdem_NL‘ on PokerStars. I remember him being a great closer, but he doesn’t play many online tournaments anymore.” The game of online poker has changed considerably since 2005. Players have become increasingly aggressive, forcing established pros to change gears in order to keep up. Gray commented on why Dwan… Read More »

Against the Odds: Big Hands from Week 1

Since Omaha is a game of draws, the big suck outs players see so often in Hold’em are few and far between. If players get it all-in with cards to come, it is fairly unusual for one to have an overwhelming statistical advantage over the other. That being said, some of the biggest pots we’ve seen in the durrrr challenge so far have seen one of the two players rally from behind going into the river to take down the hand. Here are two of the biggest pots from the first week of play where one player got it in with the best of it only to come out with the worst of it: Session 3: durrrr makes a bigger boat Full Tilt Poker $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha Hi – 2 players durrrr (BB): $56999.50 Patrik Antonius (BTN/SB): $102989.00 Pre Flop: ($600.00) Patrik Antonius raises to $1200, durrrr raises to… Read More »

No action on Tuesday

Well, it isn’t entirely true that there wasn’t any action. There just wasn’t any action in the durrrr challenge. There was, however, a ton of action on Full Tilt. Both Patrik and durrrr played in some of the high stakes games. However, durrrr had a very unpleasant day due to a near $1 million dollar loss to Phil Ivey heads up. In a long session of $500/$1000 PLO, Ivey wrecked durrrr over and over ending with a $1 million plus stack. It’s unknown if this loss affects durrrr’s ability to play in the challenge. While it’s widely believed that durrrr’s poker bankroll exceeded the near $1 million that he lost, it is possible that it was the vast majority of his online bankroll. There is the possibility that he may need to either get a transfer or wire money in. This is, however, obviously speculation. It’s much more likely that… Read More »

Day Four Ends, Durrrr Retakes the Lead

In a 1000+ hand session on Monday afternoon, Patrik and durrrr battled once again, this time playing around 1000 hands. Dwan managed to book a $206k win, leaving him up around $150k for the challenge after approximately 4,000 hands. If you’d like to see some of the biggest hands from Monday’s session, you can view our live blog post here. Here is durrrr’s graph from the session: The session ended due to Dwan’s desire to go to the gym. It’s unclear if play will resume this evening but the assumption on our part is that play is over for the day. With the challenge now around 8% in the books, it’s starting to become clear that this has the signs of a back and forth battle that will likely be up in the air until the very end. Both player seem eager to continue the challenge, so we expect a… Read More »
